New Google Phone Shows up at FCC likely Pixel 7a or Pixel Fold

The FCC has been asked to approve a new Google device that is discribed as a phone likely bringing the Pixel 7a or Pixel Fold closer to release.

Any device with wireless connectivity must be approved by governmental regulators worldwide like the FCC in the united states before it can be released three brand new FCC listings emerged this evening all of which point to a single upcoming Google phone.

The three brand new listings GODZQ GHLIX and GWKK3 all refer to one another and one of them mentions a different model G82U8 one document that Google sentto the FCC explains the differences between the majority of the new models to make the connection more clear. 

FCC ID: A4RGODZQ the NFC parent model FCC ID: The parent Model for BT/ WLAN is A4RGWKK3 and the FCC ID: The variant model of the A4RGHLIK has identical internal printed circuit board layouts but the variant model removes mm wave related componentes and populates a different MHB ENDC module the operational description provides more information on this.

The bigger question is which device we are actually looking at given that all for of these model numbers should refer to the same phone.The upcoming Pixel 7a has been leaked up until this point. It is expected to significantly improve Google previously midrange A series phones with features like a better camera wireless charging and a display that refreshes at 90 Hz.

In the meantime it has also been rumored that Googles long awaited Pixel Fold will be released this year. This will be Googles third attempt at a foldable phone. We exclusively reported last week that the Pixel Fold will likely be heavier then the Galaxy Fold 4 likely as a result of its larger battery.

Sadly the FCC listings do not seem to say anything about the size of this new phone which would tell you right away if its the Pixel Fold or the Pixel 7a. Even the Pixel 6a was available with mmwave through verizon so the possibility of this being the Pixel 7a is not completely ruled out.

The inclusion of the tested devices serial numbers which typically begin with 2829IFQHN or 28251FQHN may provide a hint. A hands on leak of an early Pixel 7a model revealed a serial number that began with 2A281FQHN which appears to be very similar.

Since the FCC confidentiality which temporarily conceals device images and manuals from the public expires in six months the only thing we can be sure of is that this latest Pixel Phone should be available well in advance of the usual fall made by Google event. This indicates that like the A series Pixel Phones typically do something will almost certainly be released in the middle of the year.

Although the times of Google I/O have not yet been announced that would be the next most likely occasions for the company to demonstrate its most recent hardware. On the way to release this appearance at the FCC is just one of many. Between now and Google I/O we will keep an eye on this enigmatic Pixel Phone and any other gadgets Google may have in its arsenal.
